Q.  Is there an age limit?

A. There is no age limit for the Maui 5k.  Participants under the age of 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian signed waiver.

Q.  How much is the entry fee?

A. Early online registration is $20.00 per person with a minimal online fee of $1.50/person (there is no online fee added to donations).  Early online registration ends at midnight March 14th.  The online entry fee increases to $25.00/person on March 15th.  Online registration closes on April 3, 2013.  Mailed in registration is $25.00 per person.  Mailed in registrations must be postmarked no later than April  1st.  Fees increase to $35.00 per person at packet pick up so sign up early!

Q. How do I register for the event?

A.  There are 3 ways to sign up for this event:

Q. Can I download the registration form from the website?

A. Yes, you may download and print a copy of the race registration form by going to maui5k.org and clicking on “Download forms and instructions” on the Home page

Q.  Is online registration secure?

A. Yes.  Your information is secure when the website address at the top of your screen begins with https:// instead of http://

Q.  If I register online will I be charged an online fee?

A. Yes.  There will be a minimal online fee of $1.50/person added to your payment which is far less than online fees charged by other registration companies.  There is no online fee added to donations.  We encourage everyone to sign up online.

Q.  Will I receive a refund if I cannot attend the race?

A. No.  Your registration fee is non-refundable but it will benefit the school of your choice and you may still pick up your t-shirt at packet pick up.

Q.  May I use a photocopy of the registration form?

A. Yes, copies are accepted.  One registration form per person is required.

Q.  Can my registration be transferred to another runner?

A. No.  Your registration, racing bib and, most importantly, the timing chip are all non-transferable.

Q.  Can I register for a friend or relative?

A. No.  Each person must sign their own waiver.  Parents must sign the waiver for anyone under 18 years of age.

Q.  Where is packet pick up and during what hours?

A. Packet pickup will be held at The Sports Authority at the Maui Marketplace on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

All participants must pick up their packets during the hours listed above.  Participants may pick up packets for each other only if all required information was properly filled out on the registration form and the waiver has been signed in advance.  There will be no exceptions.

Q.  When do I pick up my timing chip?

A. Timing chips will be distributed the morning of the race and it MUST be worn on your ankle in order for you to receive a finish time.  The timing chip must be returned at the end of the race.

Q.  When do I get my t-shirt?

A. You will receive your t-shirt at packet pick up.  This will help to eliminate long lines after the finish.

Q.  Is packet pick up mandatory?

A. Yes.  Your packet includes your official race bib with the timing chip adhered to the back of the bib.  Your race bib must be worn or you will not be allowed on the course and you will not receive a finishing time to qualify for age group awards.

Q.  Is there a special packet pick up for schools?

A. No, there will be no special packet pick up for schools or groups.  Schools, however, may contact us in advance and we will have their packets prepared ahead of time.

Q.  Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?

A. Yes, as long all required information was properly filled out on the registration form and the waiver has been signed in advance.  There will be no exceptions.

Q. Can my race packet be mailed to me?

A. No.  All participants must come to packet pick up.

Q.  If I cannot attend the race but have signed up for it, can I have my t-shirt mailed to me?

A. Yes, provided that there are t-shirts in your size available after the race, however you will be required to pay for postage required for mailing.  Send us a check payable to Honolulu 5K for the amount of $5.00 to cover the cost of postage and handling and include your name, mailing address and phone number.  Mail your request and payment to:

We strongly suggest that you make the effort to pick up your t-shirt during packet pick up hours.  We cannot guarantee that there will be t-shirts left after the race.

Q.  How long is the run?

A. There is a certified 5K course (3.1 miles) or a 1 Mile course.  Running or walking is suitable for both distances.  Parents are encouraged to register for the same course as their children because non-participants will not be allowed on either course

Q.  How do I know which course to choose?

A. The 1 Mile course is encouraged for kids 9 and under and their parents, however it is open to anyone.  The 5K course is open to anyone who is capable of completing the course whether running or walking.  We encourage all parents and/or guardians to register to participate with their children because non-participants will not be allowed on the course.  Participants with strollers will only be allowed on the 1 Mile course.

Q.  If I change my mind about the course I chose can I change it?

A. Yes.  You must notify the race officials at packet pick up so that your entry can be changed.  No changes will be allowed on race day.

Q.  Can strollers participate and does the child in the stroller need to be registered?

A.  Yes, strollers are allowed.  An infant or child age 4 years and under in a stroller must be accompanied by a registered participant.  The infant or child must also be a registered participant with a waiver signed by the parent or guardian.  The entry fee for strollers is discounted to $5.00/child or infant and they will not receive a t-shirt or finisher medal.

Q.  Are pets allowed?

A. No pets are allowed on either course or at the start and finish line areas.

Q.  What time and where will the 5K and 1 Mile courses start?

A. The 5K event starts at 7:00 am and the 1 Mile event starts at approximately 7:15 am.  For details on the exact course for both events go to maui5k.org and click on race information.

Q.  Where can I find parking for the event?

A. Parking will be available at the event site.  School bus parking will also be available at the event site.

Q.  Will bikes or skates be allowed on the courses?

A. No.  Skates and bikes are not allowed on either course because they can create a potential safety hazard.

Q.  Are wheelchairs allowed on the course?

A. Yes.  Anyone who is physically challenged is welcome to participate in the Maui 5K.

Q.  Do I have to wear my timing Chip?

A. Yes.  All 5K participants must wear a timing chip in order to get a finish time and to be eligible for an age group award.  Timing chip will be handed out on race morning.

Participants in the 1 Mile Run/Walk will not receive a timing chip.

Q.  Who will receive age group awards?

A. Awards will be given to the top three 5K male and female runners in each age group as listed below.  There are no age group awards for the 1 Mile course.

Q.  Will I receive a finisher’s medal?

A. All participants will receive a Maui 5K finishers medal and lanyard.

Q.  Will there be a post race party and where will it be?

A. Both the 5K and 1 Mile events finish near the parking lot area off of Hauoli St.  Post race refreshments will be available at the finish line.  The awards ceremony will be held at approximately 8:30 AM at the same location.

Q.  Will race results be posted?

A. Yes.  Race results will begin to be posted near the finish line as soon as the first few hundred runners come in.  Additional results will be posted as more runners cross the finish line.  Complete and final race results will be posted online at pseresults.com You may also print out your own Finisher Certificate from that website.

Q.  How will my school qualify for and receive funds?

A. All schools, statewide, that are certified 501(c)(3) will be eligible to receive funds from this event.  Each participant will be required to designate which school their entry fee should benefit from when they register for the event.  If you do not designate a school then your registration fee will be donated equally to all participating schools.  A minimum of $15.00/entry will be distributed back to your school.

Q.  What do you mean by “participating schools”?

A. A school can participate by signing up and physically participating (i.e. running or walking) in the event or by simply having someone donate to their school.  Either method would qualify your school as a “participating school” and your school’s name will be added to a Statewide list of schools which will share the event proceeds.

Q.  Is it necessary to register my school?

A. It is not required but if you will be your school’s Maui 5K coordinator, please let us know by sending an email to info@maui5k.org.  It will help us to be sure that any race updates will be received and passed on to the students and parents.

Q.  Can I make a donation to a school without physically participating in the event?

A. Yes!  Donations can be made at anytime by going online to maui5k.org or by mail.  Please be sure to designate the school you want your donation to benefit.  If you do not designate a school then your donation will be distributed equally to all participating schools.  Donations made online will not be charged the online processing fee.

Q.  Can schools on the neighbor islands benefit from this event?

A. Yes.  Encourage your families and friends to simply make a donation and designate your school on the donation form.  Your school will then be included in the list of participating schools statewide and will benefit from the funds distributed. Your physical participation in the event is not required in order for your school to receive a share of the proceeds.
